Trevor Baines Played Pivotal Role in Scam, Says Judge
This morning, 69 year old local tycoon Trevor Baines was sentenced to 6 years in prison for his part in a huge Wall Street money sharing scam.
Baines cut a sad figures as the judge handed down his sentence for money laundering, he also recieved a concurrent one year term for false accounting.
His wife Wendy escaped jail with a 9 month sentence suspended for two years.
He laundered $175,000,000 in criminal money around the Island's banks.
Baines was told that his sentence was not down to him benefitting from the money he earned for the deed, however the Judge said his actions were motivated by greed.
The Judge also said that the role Mr Baines played in the scam was pivotal to its success and that the Isle of Man is not a safe haven for dirty money.
He was taken straight from Douglas courthouse to Jurby prison where he'll spend the next 6 years.
