Tumble dryer fire prompts emergency callout

Firefighters in Douglas were called out yesterday evening to reports of a house fire in the capital.

Teams were dispatched to the property on Derby Road after the occupants smelt burning - fire alarms went off and all of them were able to evacuate.

On arrival, crews were told the issue was a tumble dryer in the basement - personnel went in to extinguish the flames before ventilating the smoke from the house.

The fire service says the combination of having working smoke alarms and all doors in the house being closed prevented any further damage.
