Cavendish second favourite for top honour
After 2 consecutive years of making the shortlist 2011 looks like it could be the year that Mark Cavendish finally received the ultimate recognition and is granted Sports Personality of the year.
On top of securing the green jersey in the Tour De France he was crowned World Champion on Sunday in Denmark riding for Team Great Britain.
Online bookmakers now have Cav just behind golfer Darren Clarke in favourites for the top honour.
Cycling enthusiasts have started a 'CAVSPOTY' twitter campaign; with team mate Geraint Thomas saying his recent success should put him well ahead of the rest of the pack.
The annual ceremony is held in December.
