    Unemployment levels rise in September

    New Chief Minister Allan Bell vows to tackle the problem

    September saw an increase in unemployment levels on the Island.

    At the end of the month the levels stood at 890, representing a rate of 2.1%.

    During the month 308 signed on and 248 signed off, a net increase of 60. Of the total unemployed 637 are males and 253 are females.

    Throughout the month 557 vacancies were notified to the Job Centre, with 243 positions still vacant and held on file.

    New Chief Minister Allan Bell outlined youth unemployment as a key issue he wants to tackle.
