Unemployment up but 'work still available' says minister

Island holding up well with nearly 600 vacancies notified during July

The job market in the Isle of Man is holding up well with nearly 600 vacancies notified during July, says Treasury Minister Anne Craine MHK.

This was in response to the latest job market statistics showing an increase in unemployment of 44 last month to a total of 890, this represents an unemployment rate of 2.1%.

575 vacancies were notified to the Job Centre during July and at the end of the month 306 positions were still unfilled.

Mrs Craine said ‘An increase in unemployment in July is a seasonal trend but fortunately job availability in the Island is still looking strong with the best part of 600 vacancies on offer during the month.'
