The Island's work permit system protects Manx workers and shouldn't be relaxed, according to a trade union boss.
Eric Holmes of Unite says he's dismayed at the suggestion from the Island's Chamber of Commerce that the rules should be eased or even suspended.
He says he's against making it easier for people to move to the Island and take jobs that could be done by local workers.
Mr Holmes says getting rid of restrictions would be a mistake:
