    Union president defends striking bus drivers

    The president of the Isle of Man Trade Union Council says bus drivers have been backed into a corner.

    Andrew Shipley heads up the council which is made up of a number of unions and says it’s supporting the drivers who are on their third day of strike action (Saturday). 
     
    Drivers have been on strike since Thursday leaving the public reliant on a skeleton bus service and school children having to get the steam or electric railway to school. 
     
    Mr Shipley says any form of industrial action is a last resort and blames the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure for failing to negotiate properly:
