Woman fined after dog attack in Castletown

Susan Moore was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse where she admitted to being the keeper of two dangerous dogs, not having them under control and allowing them to cause alarm or annoyance. 

 

On March 19th the 38-year-old, and her daughter, were walking her five dogs, all of which were unlicensed, at Fort Island in Castletown - none of them were on leads. 

 

The dogs approached another dog walker, his young son and their poodle cross - they became aggressive and began snapping and nipping at the smaller canine. 

 

Two of the dogs then grasped the poodle by its throat and began to shake it - as a result it suffered multiple puncture wounds and its back leg was fully dislocated. 

 

Moore's advocate told the court she was "at a loss to give an explanation to their behaviour" saying she'd never before had difficulties and it went "against the grain" of her 20 years' experience.

 

Sentencing her Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said the actions of her dogs had shown they were "out of control" and noted it must have been an "extremely frightening experience".  

 

She fined her £550, imposed a control order and ordered her to pay compensation to cover the vet's bills incurred by the dog owner - Moore was warned she'd go to jail if she didn't pay.
